about

Deep Heads are proud to present ‘Hungerberg’ EP from a new artist to our family, that goes by the name of Liminka.
Although this is the first release from Liminka, many of our fans will be familiar with his work as Sidi that we have released over the years.

Born in Finland but raised in Germany, Andreas Kühn aka Liminka is an artist that is going to cause some serious waves in the near future. As a teenager, he played drums and saxophone in a few bands but became more serious about creating music when he discovered music production software at the age of 16. Starting out, he experimented with making Dubstep but developed his sound into more of a Down-Tempo / Lofi sound that we hear today in his productions as Liminka. He studied Electroacoustic Composition at Bauhaus University in Weimar and Music Technology in Helsinki. Liminka is his first official project since graduating recently.

The EP presented here is nothing short of pure genius.
You can hear that Liminka has worked a long time to produce this EP and the details in the recordings are phenomenal.
The sound is Lofi & downtempo and touches on many different influences across the electronic music spectrum.

Not only do we hear the incredible production skills Liminka has built up over his time as a producer, but we also hear some brilliant compositions, all played and performed by Andreas on an array of different instruments that include guitar & saxophone.

Drawing on influences from the likes of Boards of Canada, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Bonobo, David Holmes, Fennesz & more,
You can hear that Liminka is influenced by deep, immersive electronic producers with an ear for detail and raw emotion-driven music.

In Liminka’s own words “ This EP was inspired by a change of life, moving to a new city, and the feeling of isolation it brought with it. It is both a return to an older sound that I have been developing over the last 8 years and at the same time a rediscovery of old music that I listened to when I was younger. Hungerberg is the name of a mountain that is close to the place I lived in at the time of creating this EP. I felt like it beautifully expressed the sense of longing and isolation, and that it seemed to resonate with my internal state - a state of hunger, of longing, while being isolated, and lonely on the top of my mountain.”

The EP starts with ‘Where are you now?’ which is a fantastic beginning to this magical journey of sounds. Catchy Lo-fi drums drive the track with beautiful pads filling the top end and warm bass frequencies on the bottom.
Then on the breakdown, he hear Liminka’s guitar compositions come into focus and a catchy melody line that is a joy to get lost in. An incredible track from start to finish.

Further, into the EP we hear ‘Forgive’ which continues the theme of detailed, expressive electronic music and is, without doubt, a stand-out track from the EP. It starts off with light strokes of pads in the recording that perfectly fit the drums, with the baseline slotting into the mix with perfection as the track continues. As the track progresses, all parts in the track become more intense and immersive and are masterfully mixed. A touch of sheer class on this one.

‘Straight in the park’ is the only track that we hear Liminka on Saxophone and hope to hear more if anything is as good as this piece of music.

A fantastic EP from start to finish that showcases what this artist is all about.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
Love
