Having recently completed studies in Contemporary Music at university in South Africa, Jason Beukes – or Escapism Refuge – as he is widely becoming known, is now set to release his debut album on influential London Label Deep Heads later this year.
Ahead of the release, Deep Heads now presents 'Mistakes' along with a weighty remix from Nottingham boys Congi.
'Mistakes' is a masterfully produced recording that we hear Escapism Refuge slowing down from his 140bpm stance and experimenting with a slower BPM. Heavy bass and drums are prominent, as you would expect with an Escapism Refuge production and the compositions are impressive.
Then on the flip we hear Congi give it their own unique twist on events. The result in an immersive experience of wizardly laced beats and bass that keep you locked inside the groove. Big tune!
Escapism Refuge has received some highly impressive support for his productions thus far – Gilles Peterson at BBC Radio 6 Music, Joe Kay at Soulection and Lefto of Brownswood Recordings, amongst others, have all been playing Escapism Refuge's tracks on air and in clubs across the globe.
Between the gorgeous vocal stylings that create a beautiful atmosphere to this track, the dark deep dubstep contrasts with a doom like wobble destine to give chills to friend and foe alike. Travisinmotion
