Deep Heads are proud to present 'Undo' from Julia Gjertsen. The articulate record is taken from label Deep Heads’ latest compilation titled Cosmic Vibrations Vol. 4, which will be available on digital platforms on the 26th of May.
The project boasts names like Bonobo, Richard Spaven, Jordan Rakei, Quantic, Synkro, BADBADNOTGOOD, Nosaj Thing, Lone, Liminka, Hidden Orchestra, and Yonderling, not to mention the label head himself, Zeb Samuels, who recently released the third single from the project, ‘Black Out’, which succeeded two already released offerings: Nowun’s record 'Unsaid' and producer Feverkin’s 'Element & Moderate'.
A newcomer to the Deep Heads family, Julia Gjertsen has received press support from online publications Le Devoir, Headphone Commute, Echoes And Dust, Higher Plain Music, and Stationary Travels among others. Having featured in BBC Sounds Mixes, her music has been aired on NTS Radio, Radio 1 Prague, and Radio-Canada OHDIO and landed on Spotify editorial playlists Chilled Focus and Classical Running. She brandishes nearly 4 million plays across platforms, with 1.7 million streams on her Spotify top ten.
Julia Gjertsen is a pianist and composer based in Oslo, Norway. Her music seamlessly blends piano and electronic elements to create immersive soundscapes that evoke powerful emotions. With her gentle playing style, she explores dynamics and creates delicate, yet impactful compositions. Inspired by the beauty of nature, Julia invites listeners on a journey into her musical world through her introspective compositions that reflect on the delicate balance between the past and present. Her work can be likened to Yann Tiersen, Ólafur Arnalds, Hania Rani, and Biosphere.
‘Undo’ starts beautifully with Julia at the upright piano. Flutes and warm synth notes float in and out. Then the bass enters, and the track develops into a soundscape of harmonic synchronicity, coating the riveting composition in vibrant hues. Warm and clean, the record is masterfully crafted.
Julia Gjertsen describes the song’s concept: “I dedicated a lot of time to refining and experimenting with the track, exploring the relationship between different sounds and textures. The concept of 'undoing' and starting a new was particularly appealing to me, and I believe that is what this track is trying to reflect.”
